Support & FAQ

Production times, shipping, returns and how our mouthpieces are made.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your turnaround time for custom mouthpieces?

Everything is made to order. Typical production time before shipping: Resinite 5–7 days, acrylic 7–10 days, stainless steel about 4 weeks, and TiN-coated brass about 6 weeks. Metal parts are machined by our manufacturing partner, then returned to Melbourne for inspection.

Some Standard Series options in the popular sizes may be in stock, and backbores we will likely have stock on hand, so orders may be quicker for those.

Do you ship internationally?
Yes! We ship globally using Australia Post International. Standard international shipping typically takes 10-21 days depending on your location. Express options are available at checkout.
How does the 3D Printed Test Kit work?

Our test kits allow you to trial our custom rim and cup shapes in an affordable, biocompatible polymer before committing to a machined brass or stainless steel mouthpiece. It's an affordable way to narrow down the fit that suits you.

Once made, these mouthpieces are essentially acrylic and tops can be used indefinitely or until you wear the threads out. A Resinite top with a metal backbore is a very durable combination. Many players find Resinite so comfortable and responsive that they keep playing on it.

What is your return policy?

Our standard series mouthpieces and our backbores come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

A lot of what we do is producing custom mouthpieces that are made for a specific individual, so we generally don't offer returns or refunds simply for "change of mind," although we will do whatever we can to help you. Ultimately, we want you to LOVE your PHOENIX mouthpiece.

If there is an issue or a manufacturing defect, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order and we will resolve it immediately. As an Australian retailer, all sales also have a 12-month warranty by default so you have peace of mind.

Who manufactures Phoenix Brass mouthpieces?

Chris Healey — Melbourne: All mouthpiece design work, Australian and other non-US Resinite orders, and the manufacture of acrylic and brass trumpet tops.

Donald “Butch” Stallard — USA: All American orders and the manufacture of all non-Resinite backbores, wherever the customer is based. Butch also machines our stainless steel tops.

Resinite mouthpieces

Australian orders and all international orders outside the USA are processed and made 100% in Melbourne, Australia, by Chris Healey. American Resinite orders are manufactured by our American partner, Donald “Butch” Stallard.

Brass and acrylic trumpet tops

Chris now manufactures brass and acrylic trumpet tops himself in Melbourne. Australian orders are processed by Chris, and American orders are processed by Butch.

Stainless steel tops and metal backbores

Stainless steel tops, and brass and stainless steel backbores, were initially manufactured in China. Butch now machines these in the USA. All non-Resinite backbores are made by Butch, including those ordered by Australian customers.

Meet Butch

Donald “Butch” Stallard is a retired engineer. Among other things, he used to design and build enormously complicated atomic microscopes the size of buildings.

Earlier production in China

The earliest brass and stainless steel components were made in China, which we were upfront about. At the time, we could not find a local manufacturing partner whose costs were economically viable.

What comes next

Chris plans to set up an industrial lathe in Melbourne so he can also machine backbores in Australia. This is a future plan; Australian backbore machining has not started yet.
