Tops/Cup Shapes

The way our tops work is that we have a series of  CUP SHAPES available that we can make for you at whatever depth you like and with whatever throat size or rim shape you might like. Want a different cup shape or some other modification? Yes, we can do that as well.

How do you know what depth you should go? You don't need to know any numbers or measure anything, just tell us relative to a mouthpiece you have (i.e. "Halfway between a Bach 3C and 3D" etc) and we will work it out for you.

OUR STANDARD CUP SHAPES

Claude Gordon Legacy Series
Note: When ordering as a TOP only, the CG mouthpieces will come with a #27 as the default throat unless you ask for something different. This is so that it will match up with any backbores you might plan to use it with. If you want your tops and backbores with a custom throat, that's no issue at all, just let us know!

CGP (Claude Gordon Personal) Comparably to the KANSTUL version of the Claude Gordon Personal mouthpieces. i.e. a predominiately V-shaped cup.

CGP+ (Claude Gordon Personal Plus) - Comparable to the Marcinkiewicz Claude Gordon Personal mouthpiece, with some additional lip room at the top of the cup and slightly more forgiving rim shape.
CGS (Claude Gordon Shallow) - The same cup shape as the CGP but the entire cup has been made proportionally shallower. This is my version of something like the CG3. It is a very medium cup depth, and makes a great alternative to something like a Bach 3C.

Classical Series

BC - A deep cup that is a hybrid of a "V' and a 'C' cup. The top of the cup has more lip room like a C cup, but is less bowl shaped through the middle of the cup.
CV - A very deep cup that is a hybrid of a V and a C cup. Compared to the BC, the CV is significantly deeper with a steeper slope at the top of the cup, with some bowl through the middle of the cup. We love this cup because despite its depth, it plays really great from bottom to top, and has an absolutely enormous sound when paired with a properly orchestral backbore.

CLX - This is a C / Convex-V hybrid cup. It's pretty deep by trumpet standards but has a weighty sound profile and is just efficient and fun to play.

Trumpet-Flugel Hybrid

FLX - My super deep Trumpet-Flugel Hybrid for when you want that flugel sound without having to switch. Combine it with our FX backbore and it will play in tune and the upper register will be suprisingly easy! It uses one of the convex cup designs from our Cornet mouthpiece line that gives heaps of depth but a lot of efficiency as well!

Commerical Range

We can make these cup shapes to match the depth that you know you are comfortable with.

SCREECH - This is our take on a mouthpiece that is bright and really soars, sings and sizzles in the upper register, but is much more forigiving than something like a Schilke 14A4A etc. It has enough chop room that you can play the bottom end with a big, full sound (especially if used with our Lead backbore) but can put out a heinous amount of sound in the upper and extreme upper register. It works especially well for folks struggle to find a Lead mouthpiece that works in a wider diameter. I designed this for myself to use as I like wide diameters but could never find something that really helped in the top end without either creating issues in the bottom end or after playing for a while.

X - X cup is a convex V cup with some chop room at the top of the cup. This is just another approach to creating an efficient cup for the upper register that will work better for most people than using something like a schilke 14A4A. Once I worked out what the sweet spot for the depth was, this became my absolute favorite cup ever!

SV - A shallow V cup.
