Phoenix Brass Mouthpieces
Anything is possible with a Phoenix Brass Mouthpiece!
Thanks to VennCad, we have something like 700 scans we can use as references when helping to design your mouthpieces.
To see what trumpet/cornet/flugelhorn mouthpieces we have on file, look for drawings with a Ⓥ next to them on the mouthpiece comparator:
That's thousands and thousands of possible combinations of rims, cups, throat entrances, backbores etc. And that's just the starting point. We can modified virtually every aspect of the mouthpiece to make it all work FOR YOU! While we can't guaruntee any specific design will be the exact right one we can help you methodically work it out and for a fraction of the cost of a mouthpiece safari!
We also have a variety of our own cup shapes, rims and backbores that we can reccomend to meet your various needs.
We spend our time on is creating affordable, custom mouthpieces from a bio-compatible, tough resin - what I'm calling RESINITE ! The material and process we use is ISO 10993-5 & ISO 10993-10 certified for skin contact, which means it does not cause irritation, inflammation, or sensitization when in contact with human skin externally. It's good to be aware that most 3D printing materials are not generally considered safe for skin contact.
We use Vennture Mouthpieces awesome VennCad software to design the geometry of the mouthpieces and then high-resolution 3D Resin-Printing technology to make the mouthpieces. This technology is accurate to about +-0.05mm when properly calibrated, which is absolutely essential when it comes to mouthpieces, because tiny changes can be very noticable.
The end result is that we can make a fully custom mouthpiece (in threaded top, threaded backbore or one-piece configurations) that plays great and feels AWESOME on your face.
We especially reccomend trying a resin top with a metal backbore which gives you the wonderful, comfortable, never-cold feel and amazing responsiveness of resinite, with the added stability and projection of a metal backbore. The resin material is very similar to acrylic in how it feels and responds, and a bunch of players actually prefer this type of set up, most notably Jens Lindemann* who has talked a fair bit about how much he prefers this combination to an all-metal setup. We will eventually have a whole line of our own design brass backbores available which will be produced for us by Vennture Mouthpieces, but we have to grow a bit first before we can afford to make that happen.
While the geometry of the mouthpiece is 95% of what makes it play well, for those who would prefer a brass mouthpiece, we can have that made for you by Vennture Mouthpiece using our design file.
VennCad is a free mouthpiece design program and if you would like to design your own mouthpiece/s using VennCad, we are happy to print those for you as well :-)
Below is the numbering system we use for diameters which is any size you like in 0.1mm increments. But you don't need to worry about the numbers. If you know you like a Bach 3C for example, we can just use an actual Bach 3C scan as the reference for the size.
* Jens plays acrylic Pickett Brass Mouthpiece tops with a Pickett Brass metal backbore and sounds awesome on them!
