Backbore Length

We can make longer and shorter versions of these backbores if you like. If you find, for example, that your tuning slide is extended beyond a normal amount, or you are having difficulty getting the instrument up to pitch (such as in cold weather), we can make a short or longer backbore for you.

Classical Backbores

#1 is the most open, #10 is the tightest

#1
- A shorter than standard backbore based on the Claude Gordon Personal backbore. It's a very open backbore.
#2 - A modified version of the Claude Gordon Personal backbore. The end of the backbore is not as flared which adds some additional stability, resistance and core to the sound. It will feel a bit less 'spread' than the #1.
#3 - This is actually a backbore from a rotary trumpet mouthpiece, but it has a wonderful, fat, orchestral sound when paired with a suitable top. Don't worry, it's made to be played on piston trumpets!

#4 - An open, free-blowing backbore that will feel comfortable for orchestral musicians, with an appropriate amount of spread to the sound.

#5 - An open, free blowing backbore that offers a little more resistance than the #4. Pair with a deep cup for orchestral playing.

#6 - A medium-large backbore that will be comfortable for most players and most playing situation where you're using a medium to deep mouthpiece cup.

#7 - A good all-around, medium backbore that will be comfortable for many and suitable for most medium cup depths/volumes.

#8 - A medium backbore that will pair well with medium or medium-shallow cups

#9 - A medium-tight backbore that will pair well with medium-shallow and shallow cups.

#10 - A tight backbore that will work well for when you're using shallower cups. Also makes an exceptional Lead backbore with heaps of sizzle, but not uncomfortably tight!

Lead Backbore

Our lead backbore is fairly open as far as commercial backbores go, and is longer than standard. This setup helps keep your tuning slide in a bit further when you are using a shallow cup, helps keeps the top end from going sharp and helps to keep things feeling stable and centred in the lower end.
